PROTECT (Protective Textiles based on Carbon Nanotube Composites) is a "Innovation and Commercialisation in the NMP thematic area - INCOMERA" project. PROTECT has received funding from the European Union Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) under grant agreement nº 618103.
Development of lightweight and flexible protective fabrics
The concept of the “PROTECT” project, with an implementation duration of 2 years, lies on the development of lightweight and flexible protective fabrics designated for personnel with high risk professions.
Nine partners from four different countries
PROTECT is a collaborative project built by 9 entities, coming from 4 European countries (Greece, France, Spain and Turkey): 3 research institutions, 2 large companies, 2 SMEs and 2 universities.

FORTH/ICEHT Greece
The Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences (ICE-HT) was established and began operating at Rio-Patras in 1984 as an independent academic institute. In 1987 ICE-HT was incorporated into the structure of the Foundation of Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH). This comprises of a network of six institutes that report directly to the General Secretariat of Research and Technology of the Ministry of Development and Investment. In addition to fundamental research, the Institute currently conducts applied and technological research in a great variety of fields and provides specialized services to industry.
Nafpaktos Textile Industry S.A. Greece
The company works continuously under various legal forms since 1964, while since 2002 bears the name "NAFPAKTOS TEXTILES INDUSTRY SA". Over the past decade the company has progressed to major structural changes discontinuing loss-making activities and investing in new areas through subsidiaries. It is currently engaged in the cotton ginning and the production of cotton yarns. More than 70% of the total sales are exports. It continues to be financially strong and independent despite the economic crisis that has hit the highest proportion of companies in Greece and beyond.
ZM Makina Tekstil San.TicçLtd.Şti Turkey
ZM Makina was established in 2014. The scope of the company is spinning synthetic yarns. The company has 20 employees at the moment and the production line consists of POY (Partially oriented Yarn), FDY (Fully drawn yarns), DTY (Drawn texture Yarn) spinning, twisting and thermofixation. Production capacity is over 1300 tons per month. ZM Makina serves to especially carpet, fabric, and garment industry. The company has installed 3 POY spinning and 2 FDY spinning lines and 8 winders for POY, micro POY, PBT, supermicro FYD and FDY yarns.
İNTERNET TEKSTİL SAN VE TİC. A.Ş. Turkey
Internet Tekstil established in 2004, is a vertically integrated company from spinning to garment. The company completed its vertical operations in house and as a result of this, decreased the lead time up to 4 weeks in fast fashion orders. Internet Tekstil employs > 1000 people in its spinning, knitting-dyeing-finishing and garment production. Internet Tekstil has a daily production capacity of 20 tons of spinned yarn, 15 tons dyed, 10.000 tons of raw fabric, 2000 meters of pigment printed fabrics. Internet Tekstil manufactures for internationally renowned brands such as Superdry, Next, Celio, Levi’s, Esprit, Terranova, Palmers, Ernsting’s Family.

CETI was created in 2012. It is a place to design, experiment, prototype and industrialize new products, materials and processes adapted to the needs of the global textile industry. CETI thus collaborates with the producers, major brands and distributors of fashion, sports, luxury and technical textiles.
AITEX Spain – Subcontractor
The Textile Industry Research Association - AITEX is a private association of research, characterization and certification tests of articles and textile materials with application to many sectors such as habitat, fashion and clothing, health and medicine, hygiene and cosmetics, work clothes , personal protection equipment, sports and leisure, public transport, automotive, nautical, aeronautics, civil works and construction, sports surfaces, etc. AITEX is currently, at the national level, the reference center for research, innovation and advanced technical services for companies in the textile, clothing and technical textiles sectors.
